Volunteer Opportunities

SALC is extremely grateful for its many dedicated volunteers. Volunteers are instrumental in keeping rates low for SALC clients. For more information about volunteering for any of these opportunities, please contact the listed number after each description.

  • SALC Night Clinic Volunteer:
Virtually all client intake is handled at 'Night Clinic'. SALC currently has a pool of over 100 volunteers including lawyers and receptionists sessions at all three branch offices who staff night clinic. However, we are always looking for additional volunteer attorneys, practicing in any area of the law, to conduct client intakes (training is available) as well as non-attorneys who would like to volunteer as night clinic receptionists.

Clients meet with volunteer attorneys under the supervision of a SALC staff attorney for a 30-minute consultation. The volunteer interviews the individual, and with the assistance of the staff attorney, advises him/her of their rights, procedures, court costs, and the cost of retaining the Clinic. Volunteers who serve as receptionists, greet prospective clients and ask them to fill out our intake forms, keep track of the schedule etc.

Night Clinics are generally held on Wednesday evenings but vary at each office. Volunteers arrive at 6:00pm for dinner and meet with clients from 6:30pm until 9:00pm. Most people volunteer from 1-2 shifts each month. This system allows the staff attorneys time to work on active cases during the day. Call the Office Manager at 503-281-1500 ext. 10 for more information.
